East Northamptonshire Council have released a statement regarding the recent speculation of the potential cost of delivering the Northamptonshire unitary programme.
“The estimated costs totalling around £44m have not yet been agreed by senior officers or councillors at any of the eight councils, and are currently under review.
It is important to recognise that, while these costs will inevitably be significant, they will be far outweighed by the benefits to be delivered in the years following the creation of the two unitary councils, should the Secretary of State decide to proceed with that proposal.
The changes we will be making are essential in order to enable us to provide high-quality, joined-up services in the future, to the benefit of all our residents and communities.
