A number of people have asked Raunds Town Council if they would be doing anything to mark the 75th anniversary of D Day
We held our own discussion over on the Raunds Town Voice Group where this topic also got some interest. We had suggestions coming in such as Sharon Neals idea:
” How about a road closure D Day themed event on the square where everyone dresses in military/ 40’s style, with 40’s music/ singalong/ stalls selling simple granny’s pantry food 40’s style, maybe a farmers market, get army cadets/ Salvation Army/Temperance band involved, fairground rides for kids, toffee apples, candy floss, Union Jack bunting, maybe even get a flyover from bombers. You could get the local schools involved by having a refugee dress themed competition with prizes( will help educate some of the younger ones too!) etc”
The topic was discussed further by Raunds Town Council in their last Events Committee meeting (29th April)
Following discussion, the decision was made for a recommendation to the Full Town Council to have an evening of live music on the Square. From 6:30pm – 8pm with a WW2 set. With Tea and cakes to be offered free of charge
The event (if approved) is to have a maximum budget of £1,000 to be met from the council’s contingency fund
If approved, let us know if you’ll be interested in coming along using the comments below.
